ABOUT THE COLLECTION
According to the founding father of analytic psychology, archetypes are a result of collective, shared ancestral memories that may persist in art, literature and religion but aren’t obvious to the eye. They help us make sense of the world and get a better grasp of social structures and human interactions. We all learned to recognise archetypes in our early childhood through lullabies and bedtime stories - a Ruler, a Hero, an Outlaw, a Lover, a Sage Hermit...
Those archetypal characters come up time and time again in our lives - in every film you’ve ever loved, and every villain you've loved to hate. While universally accepted and recognised, it’s somewhat rare to come across clear archetypal characters in real life. This collection of works is a character study of four archetypal Queens who have seemingly stepped into this world from a deck of playing cards. Each stroke and element in every one artwork explores their virtues, vulnerabilities and vices.
